My art practice is marked by creating works that border on fiction and history. I employ a wide range of mythological propaganda-strategies resulting in dream-like drawings where fantasy and reality coexist.
Mythical tales, cultures and beliefs have always inspired me from childhood. Poets like Namdev Dhasal, Rumi, Khalil Gibhran through their writings give me flying visions for subjectivity, composition and fantasying power to my thoughts. I am highly impressed with surrealism, where artists like Rene Magritte, inspire me to create interesting intellectual visuals. Indian miniatures have always played an important part of my subjectivity and visual thought process. I believe we reside in parallel lives of myths, tales and fantasy, all having their existence in the present, which makes my works visually surreal, standing between reality and fantasy. Visual content becomes highly dramatic, miniature stylised, playful, and storytelling erotic. In my previous works I played with existing mythological characters, later on I created my own mythical animals according to different situations. At present, I am working on creating my own myth and designing every aspect of it. A newly modified myth existing in current time, will give an innovative, interesting and more connected perspective of today’s life. |
