Sangam Vankhade

Born 1991, Maharashtra
BVA, Sculpture, MS University, Baroda, Gujarat
MVA, Sculpture, MS University, Baroda, Gujarat
Sangam Vankhade studied Sculpture from the Faculty of Fine Arts, Baroda. Sangam’s works are derived from his interpretation of historical marvels in the context of fast urbanising spaces. “The objects are born from the excavation of my mind. My works bring to life the stories I have heard about the past era. I visit these sites to contextualise the stories I have heard over the years”.

Sangam is concerned about the fate of monuments in India and the complete lack of sensitivity in these contemporary times to conserve and save them. “My approach towards visualising my work is to dissect the structures and provide an intimate view of the interiors of the monuments. In the process, I attempt to bring out the neglect and apathy these sites suffer at the hands of urbanisation. I do not intend to re-create or make replicas of the original. I feel my work is a small way to preserve the memory of this important and integral part of our heritage”.

Sangam has exhibited widely in India, from the Indian Art Fair in 2022, to Jehangir Art Gallery, Mumbai. He received the Scogliera Viva award - Sculpting the Sea, an International Award from Italy in 2018, amongst many others.
