Malleshi Hullen (b. 1980)
Malleshi was born and raised in Chitradurga village, Karnataka. He graduated from Karnataka University with a Bachelors Degree in Fine Arts (Painting) and went on to complte a post diploma in printmaking from Kala Bhavan, Visava Bharti University, Shantiniketan in 2008.
Malleshi has been working on the theme of machines since 2008. He is interested in how machines are interrelated with everyday life and activity. For Malleshi, machines form the platform on which he represents mechanical life of the 21st century. His works look at the way society actively works like a machine. From manual workers to domestic animals, they all become integrated to form his creation. Malleshi found that on many occasions the machines provoked him to react on paper in a highly exaggerated manner.
His works are created with the use of bright colours which are used to fill the background. Later darker and tertiary colours are added to the main areas of painting illustrating the strong inner emotion and struggle of life.
