For Bharat, art is the entry point to a layered world of multiple meanings and representations that can be traced back to history - such as myths and objects of daily life, especially farming, which stands for a deeper interpretation of the world. The symmetrical detailing and painstaking process makes each of Bharat’s works a throwback to the times when art was a vocation and much was expected of an artist beyond just a few brush strokes.
His interests are focused on what touches the everyday life of a person and the cycle of nature, the transport, the travel, the spiritual seeking and the difficulty of earning a living as well as the joy of making a living out of agriculture. All of these diverse strands can be seen in his work giving us a picture of India as it exists in the rural setting beyond the chic art of modern, urban concerns. The defining point to Bharat’s art is devoted to workmanship. Each of his works have a sense of craftsmanship in it, which avoids easy short-cuts and is marked by precise and conscious patterns that connect his contemporary works to the Indian miniature tradition. Bharat’s skill lies in making his own motifs, drawn from his experience and the life he observes around him - he is particularly drawn to repetitive patterns, such as that of peanuts, leaves, trees etc. “This is perhaps my biggest contribution, as I don’t flinch from experimentation in ways that haven’t been attempted before without breaking away from the traditions. My work can be symbolic as well as be enjoyed as a standalone work of beauty, it doesn’t burden the audience with unnecessary complexity between their enjoyment and understanding of the art”. |
